I am both relieved and grateful and sad to be leaving this pivotal period of my life so far. I came to this role reluctantly, not seeing what others saw in me and how much I had to give. Through the encouragement of my friends here at Youth Assembly, I took it on and do not regret my decision. I think we have had a successful 2024 Youth Assembly.
I have done so much this year, from organising Youth Assembly to attending Greenbelt and hosting events at the youth tent. I have been to Palestine and Switzerland for Ecumenical events, which have brought me closer to my faith and have expanded my mind so much. The skills I have gained over the past two years as mod-elect and then moderator will serve me well going forward.
As an executive we have been all over the country (even to Scotland!). It's safe to say I am all travelled out!
I have learned so much, for example, self-management skills such as organisation and diary planning, plus, how to navigate different spaces, chairing and moderating skills, leadership skills, peer support skills, and public communication skills.
Thank you to Sam and Heather (and all the Children & Youth Work Committee) who have been a guiding hand through this process. The organising, fine details and task completion could not have been done without you.
It has been an immense privilege working with my youth executive members, who have been my friends and supporters this entire year. An especially big thank you to my mod Elect Heather, who has been my brain cell this year- keeping me on the right path and on schedule throughout the year. I know you are going to do an amazing job in 2024/2025. I look forward to seeing all your hard work come to fruition.
Lastly, my immense gratitude to my team: my mother, my Children & Youth Development Officer Lorraine Downer, and Joseph Amoah, the youth executive chaplain, who have been here for me throughout my time as moderator. You have bolstered me, prayed with me, listened to my rants and my tears and joy, always with a calming word and a helpful action in response.
I give all the glory to God who has seen me through this year and YA2024. See you all next year with a blue lanyard :)
