URC Youth Leaders Gathering 2026: Wise Words, Wiser Actions

A weekend of encouragement, reflection and renewal for those working with young people across the URC.

Posted on Tuesday, December 16, 2025

Youth work can be deeply rewarding — and deeply demanding. The URC Youth Leaders Gathering 2026 offers a much-needed space to pause, reflect, be encouraged, and reconnect with others involved in youth ministry across the church.

Taking place from Friday 27 February to Sunday 1 March 2026, this residential weekend will be held at Highgate House, just outside Northampton. It’s a chance to step away from the everyday pressures of youth work and spend time in worship, conversation, learning, and rest.

A Weekend of Encouragement and Reflection

This year’s gathering will explore the theme “Wise Words – Wiser Actions”, inviting us to reflect on how we live and lead wisely as we journey alongside young people. Together, we’ll consider how our words, decisions, and actions shape the spaces we create — and how we can continue to grow as disciples in God’s kingdom.

The programme is designed to offer:

  • Space for worship and prayer
  • Time to reflect and relax
  • Honest conversation and shared learning
  • Opportunities to connect with other youth workers and leaders

Whether you’re new to youth work or have many years of experience, this weekend is about being refreshed and supported in community.

Guest Speaker: Rev Dr Ash Barker

We’re delighted to welcome Rev Dr Ash Barker as keynote speaker for the weekend. Ash is a Shalom Activist and pioneering minister with over 35 years of experience unlocking potential in urban communities.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Ash spent 12 years living and serving in Bangkok’s largest slum before relocating to inner-city Birmingham in 2014. Alongside his wife Anji, he lives in community at Newbigin House in Winson Green and ministers with Lodge Road Community Church (URC).

Ash’s work through Seedbeds focuses on growing local leaders and communities into fullness of life, rooted in God’s love, justice, and shalom. His insight, experience, and passion for grassroots transformation will shape our reflections throughout the weekend.

Who Is This For?

This gathering is open to anyone working with young people aged 11–25, in any context.

  • Bringing young people to Youth Assembly? Enjoy a weekend of refreshment while you’re nearby.
  • Not attending Youth Assembly? You are just as welcome.

If you work with young people in the URC — paid or voluntary — this weekend is for you.
